The Video Game Newsroom Time Machine is a weekly retro gaming podcast in which we travel back in time to see what was making headlines 40, 30, and 20 years ago in the arcade, video game, and computer gaming business and interview industry veterans.

We try to put those events into historical context to understand how the industry of today came to be.

It's fun and educational! (in case you need to justify listening to it to a significant other)

Alexander Smith is a dedicated researcher and historian; the visionary creator of the video game history podcast, They Create Worlds; and, now, the author of the first of a three volume history of the game industry that shares the same name.

Alex is a reference librarian with degrees in history, law, and library information science and he brings those skills to his in depth study of the history of our favorite hobby. Having grown up a Nintendo and PC gamer, he has helped unearth massive amounts of information about the industry's history through extensive study of original documents, as well as, over 100 interviews with industry pioneers.

We are happy to have him with us for this interview into what drives his passion, his methodology, as well as, a few fun stories from his over 13 year journey discovering the history of gaming.
